“Surrender your heart to God, turn to him in prayer, and give up your sins—even those you do in secret. Then you won’t be ashamed; you will be confident and fearless. Your troubles will go away like water beneath a bridge, and your darkest night will be brighter than noon. You will rest safe and secure, filled with hope and emptied of worry.” Job 11:13-18 (CEV)
“Where God’s love is, there is no fear, because God’s perfect love drives out fear.” 1 John 4:18 (NCV)
Pastor, fear can meet you early on a Monday morning. It may come through a hard decision waiting for you, a criticism you can’t shake, a family in crisis, a financial concern, or a private burden no one else knows you’re carrying.
How do you learn to live in God’s love so you can lead without being ruled by fear?
Every day, you surrender your heart to God.
Before you step into the week’s meetings, messages, conversations, and needs, you can pray, “God, before I carry anything for anyone else today, I surrender my emotions to you. Be Lord over my feelings. Guard my mind. Fill my heart with your love.”
Job 11:13-18 says, “Surrender your heart to God, turn to him in prayer, and give up your sins—even those you do in secret. Then you won’t be ashamed; you will be confident and fearless. Your troubles will go away like water beneath a bridge, and your darkest night will be brighter than noon. You will rest safe and secure, filled with hope and emptied of worry” (CEV).
There are three commands and eight promises in that passage. First, God gives you the commands: Surrender your heart to him every day. Turn to him in prayer. Give up your sins, including the ones no one in your church can see.
Then notice what God promises: You won’t be ashamed. You’ll be confident. You’ll be fearless. Your troubles will pass like water under a bridge. Your darkest night will become brighter than noon. You’ll rest safe and secure. You’ll be filled with hope. You’ll be emptied of worry.
Who doesn’t need that at the start of a ministry week?
You don’t have to pastor out of fear today. You can surrender your heart to God, turn to him in prayer, and confess what needs to be brought into the light.
Then trust him to do what only he can do: help you “rest safe and secure, filled with hope and emptied of worry.”
