Looking for feedback from church leaders who have now or have had in the past a Saturday evening service.

I am looking for your feedback regarding a Saturday evening service. We are a progressive, purpose driven, non-demoninational church with several "good problems" we are dealing with. Our Church, Grace Community Fellowship (GCF) , is located in Eugene, Oregon. Coming from a conservative evangelical background, the thought of deviating from a traditional Sunday morning outline is a difficult change to consider.

The considration of the additional service on Saturday evening is for three reasons: (1) Our church mission is "To love people where they are at and help them follow Jesus". It doesn't say love them where we are at, but where they are at. The mission is the same, but the function may need to be altered to meet the ever changing dynamics of an unsaved world. (2) Space is a huge concern. We have undergone a near 3 million addition in the last 2 years to predominately inhance our CE department. Our general focus is 25-35 year old couples with kids so this was the absolute paramount need at that time. Our concern now is (3) Finances. As a board we agree, to a man, that taking on more debt is not responsible or possible taking into the consideration the existing debt taken on for the last build, the current economy and the dynamics of our body. At this time we are concerned with taking care of our staff and their needs which has for a long time has been overlooked.

God has done miraculous things at GCF. The last project was a total God thing. All the "experts" were astonished at what happened. They only predicted a third of what happened based on our size. We are very blessed and want to continue to be responsive to God's calling to serve our community, but our sanctuary is too small. We have tried 3 services on Sunday. 8:00/9:30/11:00, and no matter how hard we tried we could not get more than 50 people to come to the 8:00 service. A few of my fellow elders are interested in examining a Saturday evening service, including our senior pastor, but the overall feeling is that if it worked, why aren't many other churches doing it?

If you have a Saturday evening service I would like to discuss with you the challenges that you have in making it work and what you done. If you have tried and it didn't work I would also like your feedback. Thanks in advance for your help.

40 days of Love Campaign

We are new to the 'campaign' type of lessons and small group series and had a question. Is the small group study designed to start after the first weekend lesson or before it.

and 2 - I am assuming The relationship principles of Jesus book is designed to be read starting on the date of the first weekend lesson??

Background checks for volunteers

What process do you use to "vet" your volunteers, particularly those working with minors? What resources do you use for background checks, if you do them? Do they work well?

Our church wants to set this up and I'm curious what others are doing.

I currently have a blog hosted by blogger.com. Is there a way to get my pastors.com blog linked to my blogger.com blog so that when I post on blogger, it will then also post it on pastors.com? Facebook has something like this where when I post on blogger it makes a new "note" on facebook.

Hello everyone! I'm both a new pastor and new to this site- I became a pastor just under a year ago after graduating with a Christian Ministries degree. I'm getting a little more used to ministry, and found this place as a good place to meet pastors and throw ideas around! However, I haven't found anyplace for ideas or help- only news! Where should I go for questions like suggestions for Bible Studies, advice, or discussion of current trends and concepts? I love the site, and judging by comments, it seems like I've picked an exciting time to join up!

Deleting a profile

Anyone else having trouble adding files?

Early on I added one file to my files page. Since then, I haven't been able to add any other files (I've tried several different times).

When I select the folder that I want to add the file to, then click on "Select File," the pop-up comes up and I choose my file. But after that, nothing seems to happen.

Anyone else having trouble with adding files?

First, THANKS to those responsible for this online community and its development!

Second, I assume that you're interested in user experience and feedback (especially as you prepare to go live with the new site). :)

Things seem to be coming together well, but a couple things I've noticed that I thought I'd mention, just in case they're not on your radar yet ...

I don't seem to be able to control the "Blogs" section on my home page, yet. For some reason, all of Paul Agnew's posts and replies are listed there.

More critically, though, there seems to be a security issue on the blogs. The "common tasks" ("Control Panel" and "Write a Blog Post") appear to be available to everyone (or, at least to me), which should only be available to the blog owner, right? As it is now, it looks like anyone can go into anyone's control panel and make changes or even write new posts on anyone's blogs (not that anyone would do that, of course!).

As I said, though, things seem to be coming together well, overall. I look forward to its continued development!
