This is pretty shocking. Apparently, in the first quarter of 2009, about 1 of of every dollars in income was due to Social Security, food stamps, unemployment insurance and health care. That's the highest amount since 1929 when the government first started keeping records. Not that those programs are bad. I just worry about long-term sustainability, and motivating people to support themselves.
