The article in Time magazine is very well-written.

Some of my favorite (or interesting) lines ...

  • "church planter," or serial church founder.
  •  I don't have much faith in government solutions, given the track record. It's why I am a pastor, not a politician.
  • Re: PEACE -- He is comfortable "building the plane as we fly it."
  • He has written a holiday book, The Purpose of Christmas.
  • "I've had to add a new hat: my statesman hat. I had a call the other day from a President in Africa asking me to contact a President in Asia to set up a meeting."

Worth a read!

I read the article and really enjoyed it as well.

It's also getting some play at Monday Morning Insight, one of my favorite sites for looking at ideas for innovation in the church.

I read the text of the article -- pretty good.  At first it looked like a story about Rick and his passion for ministry.  Then I saw the magazine with the pictures.  Notice which candidate is in a picture holding Rick's hand.  My fear is that when preachers mix with politicians, it seldom presents a clear, unequivocal testimony of the gospel of Jesus Christ.  The gospel usually ends up getting politicized and marginalized.

I pray God will plant his hedge around Rick Warren as he wades into this cesspool.

As a European looking in at US politics: I have only ever met two born again US Christians, who even hinted that they may be supporters of the Democrats' Party. I met 100s though who openly told me -with pride (!)- that they were Republicans or their supporters.

I am very surprised that Rick is having BOTH in his church or event. Great!

Why are we arfraid of being tainted by the world? Shouldn't the world be tainted by the Kingdom of God?

God for it Pastor Rick influence the politicians -the top politicians- with the goodness of God's Kingdom.

Let's not retreat into our church building! ... Sorry, I'm a preacher and starting to get passionate about something.Surprise

Bless you all! Bob

As the event nears, there are a number of new articles. Here are a few ...

USA Today: Candidates take turns at faith forum

The Economist: The God Question

Newsweek: Under God (a critical view)

QUOTE God for it Pastor Rick influence the politicians -the top politicians- with the goodness of God's Kingdom. END QUOTE

I don't see this as a foregone conclusion.
