We are a little over halfway through her 12-week chemo-regimen. After that she'll have 6 weeks of daily radiation. She's healing well from the porta-cath insertion surgery, and her pain level is going down. Yesterday (as I write this) she had a great day at the hospital UNTIL the chemo effects kicked in, and she quickly deteriorated into misery and major nausea. The rest of the day was very rough as nurses tried to ease her pain ...

Barna: Biblical worldview held by only 4% of adults
by Michael Foust

Everyone has a worldview, but few have one that is biblical.

That's the conclusion of a national survey by Barna Research, which found that just 4 percent of American adults have a biblical worldview. Additionally, Barna says only 9 percent of those categorized as born-again Christians have a biblical worldview ... [more]

The Fifth Discipline
Peter Senge (Doubleday, 1994)

David Hull, pastor of the First Baptist Church of Knoxville, Tenn., considers this “one of the best books of the last 10 years on the subject of organizational transitions.”

"Often we act as if relationships are something to be squeezed into our schedule. We talk about finding time for our children, or making time for people in our lives. That gives the impression that relationships are just a part of our lives along with many other tasks. But God says relationships are what life is all about." - Rick Warren

"Turn me away from wanting any other plan than yours. Revive my heart toward you." - Ps. 119:37 (Living Bible)

Daily Candy - This site will help you stay up-to-date with trends which may - or may not - sweep the nation - a possible source for sermon illustrations. We present this for research purposes and do not endorse anything on the site.
Jesuit Prayer - If it's possible to get away from the madness and draw near to God in prayer while on-line, this might be the place. A site run by Irish Jesuits, it contains some elements the average evangelical pastor will want to skip. Yet, for ideas on quiet contemplation and prayer in the midst of a hectic schedule, this is worth a look.

Birthday Party for Jesus in USA Today! - Rick Warren

Precious Lord, Thou art the provision in every necessity, the satisfaction of every desire. - Andrew Murray

Individuals still give most - Americans donated $212 billion to various charities [in 2001], with nearly 76% coming from the pockets of individuals. Foundations gave just over 12% and bequests under 8%. Corporations gave just 4.3% of all charitable giving. - USA Today, 10/15/2002

You cannot show the preciousness of a person by being happy with his gifts. Ingratitude will certainly prove that the giver is not loved, but gratitude for gifts does not prove that the giver is precious. What proves that the giver is precious is the glad-hearted readiness to leave all his gifts to be with him. This is why suffering is so central in the mission of the church. The goal of our mission is that people from all the nations worship the true God. But worship means cherishing the preciousness of God above all else, including life itself. It will be difficult to bring the nations to love God from a lifestyle that communicates a love of things. - John Piper, Let the Nations Be Glad! (2nd edition, Baker, 2003, page 101)

To say in our pluralistic culture that Christ is the only way to heaven is like waving a red cape in front of a raging bull. - O. S. Hawkins in a sermon at the Southern Baptist Convention in Phoenix, June 2003
